During 2003 Imego was run a project "Laserbulb" together with the Spin-off company Albax Systems AB. The project produced prototypes of a FSO “Free Space Optics” data communication links according to a new concept for rough outdoor environments. The entire equipment with optics and electronics was packaged a sealed glass bulb. Communication at 600MBit and 60 meter was successfully tested. The market was there; a direct need of some 4000 units was found just in Sweden, however a development time of 2-3 years was too long to get interested investors.

During the development work a new patent was filed at Albax together with Prof. Spartak Gevorgian at Chalmers for a new high speed fiber detector. The detector is based on “coplanar traveling wave” technology. This technology permits VERY big detectors with higher sensitivity than existing detectors on the market. Existing detectors will be smaller with higher frequencies. Some 25um at 10 GBit. With the Albax technology you can theoretically make detectors for than 100 GBit at a whole wafer! A positive feasibility study is preformed; next step is to make a first prototype.
