IDM20 Wireless Motion Sensor Platform

Imego’s distributed measurement systems, the IDM20 and IDM21, consist of several inertial measurement units (IMUs) and one or more laptops with software for data collection and movement evaluation. The IDM20 sensor units contain a three-axis accelerometer and components for wireless data transmission. The IDM21 IMUs contain three-axis accelerometers, a three-axis gyroscopes, wireless interface and a memory card to log data prior to transmission.

The IDM21 can furthermore log analog data from an external channel. They are battery powered with a lifespan of 1-4 days. It is possible to collect data from at least six different sensor units and an almost unlimited number of portable computers. This allows for simultaneous measurement at several places and provides redundancy in data collection. The IDM2x family is a line of low-cost sensors where the strength lies in measuring at several points simultaneously.

Through this system, a signature for different movements can be obtained based on the acceleration and rotation in three axes and used to discriminate between different types of movements. It was developed to study movement patterns of patients under observation, in order to be able to discriminate between normal movements and movements caused by disease.
