IQA10 Triaxial Accelerometer Platform

Imego’s triaxial accelerometer principle, IQA10, is a patented sensor solution for motion measurement in three dimensions. All three axes of motion are measured with a single silicon chip sensor, which is good news for those who need to measure vibrations or accelerations in tight spaces. The unique sensor solution and construction method gives IQA10 a number of advantages over other technology in this area.

IQA10 is micromachined and based on the patented Quad Slanted Beam principle where four separate masses are suspended by slanted beams that bend in different directions. This accelerometer principle provides full symmetry and has identical properties in the x-, y-, and z-direction with near-zero cross-coupling between the axes.

The design is especially suited for demanding navigation and industrial measurement applications due to its high performance and symmetrical properties. Its symmetry enables low bias drift, a critical parameter for navigation applications. Its design allows the use of heavy proof masses that can reduce output noise to the extremely low levels. Noise levels down to 20 ng/√Hz, such as those required for geophones, can be achieved. In high volumes, the sensor can be adapted for low-cost applications such as human motion analysis, home appliances, vehicles, mobile phones and toys.

Extreme performance

IQA10’s prime strength is its high performance that can optimized to customer requirements.  Very low noise at low power consumption can be achieved. Low bias drift designs are possible.

Compact

The monolithic design of the IQA10 four-element sensor enables minimizing the component size without affecting its high performance. Its small size is one of IQA10’s decisive strengths.

Quality assured

Micromechanical systems (MEMS) can be manufactured in a completely automated process, which means that quality deviations in production are minimized. IQA10’s unique design with multiple sensors on the same silicon wafer also eliminates the risk of mounting and calibration error.

Cost effective

IQA10’s construction method (batch MEMS processing) enables a very low production cost in large runs. Since the system is constructed in a single piece, the usual costs for mounting and calibration of multiple individual sensors are eliminated.
